Sony’s PS5 Slim Could Launch As Early As 2023 According To Microsoft

According to The Verge, Microsoft has revealed in documents filed with the FTC that Sony has plans to release the PS5 Slim later this year. This information came to light during the Microsoft vs FTC case, which brought forth various trade secrets and internal details that may not have been disclosed otherwise.

For the uninitiated, Sony sells two versions of the PlayStation 5 console: the PS5 with a disc drive and a digital-only version. The disc version costs Rs 54,999 in India, while the digital version is Rs 10,000 cheaper and retails at Rs 44,999.

According to a document shared by Microsoft, the PlayStation 5 Slim could be launched at the same price as the digital version, which is Rs 44,999 in India and $399 in the US.

InsiderGaming reported last year that Sony might offer a removable disk drive with the PlayStation 5 Slim console. This means that if users decide to upgrade to a slimmer console, they can still play their physical game library on it. A removable disk drive could be available as a separate accessory for users to purchase if they are interested in playing physical copies of games on the alleged PS5 Slim console.

The Microsoft document further reveals that Sony is also considering the launch of a new PS5-based handheld console, but it is unlikely that Sony will launch a standalone handheld, and instead the Microsoft document may refer to the already confirmed PlayStation Project Q, which is a remote controller. a gaming device designed to stream PS5 games over Wi-Fi. It has all the original PS5 DualSense features, including support for Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers.
